Comments and Ratings for HERE Maps
Needs work, but has real potential (1.8)

I don't understand all the whining about this app needing work. Of course it needs work, Nokia is a new player to the mapping game, which jumping into by the way is no easy task. Even Apple, with infinite resources, wasn't able to pull off their debut without significant hiccups.
It's slick interface and seamless transitions of maps makes it a pleasure to use. The only criticism I have isn't with the app itself, but rather that Nokia still has not yet opened up map editing for Europe and North America the way Google has. With all the map error adjustments that are necessary, I would think it'd be in their best interest to enlist user assistance in getting those squared away.
While still somewhat behind the major players, I am definitely looking forward to seeing what Nokia is going to try to improve upon the mapping standards that we are all now used to.
Simply works (1.8)

I travel a lot because of my job Nokia got it right. I had a few hiccups but what navigation app doesn't, this is the best one I've used by far.

This app seems half baked. The offline feature is not very useful at all. Needs lot of work

GREAT map app (1.8)

If this were a paid app, it would be worth it.
Better satellite view than any other app (bing, apple, google, google earth), especially in foreign countries. Public transit maps are clear and show whole routes for all lines of public transit. Quality app so far
Sync with website and WP8 (1.8)

This app is great. I can setup my locations from the "Here.com" website and have all of that information show up in this app and on my Windows Phone 8's Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps apps. Makes it easy to manage all of my locations. Maps look accurate. Only feature I could ask for is the ability to download maps like I can do on my WP8 device. This makes it great to still have maps when I'm out of the country with my data service turned off.
Don't know why people are rating that the satellite images look worse. I compared Apple maps and Nokia maps in my area and they overall look the same to me. In fact the Nokia maps look more natural to Apple high contrast satellite images.

The maps take forever to load when you zoom in or out. And you can't search addresses while offline. What's the point of having offline mode?
good job (1.8)

I do not know why it's taken so long for an app like this. Better than the app that comes with the phone. Was able to give my location so I knew where I was. Bravo!!!
Knows were my house is (1.8)

I agree with others that the maps and features are not as elegant as apple and google but it gets a thumbs up from me because for my area the map data is much more accurate. I live close to the KY river near Lexington. This map gets to within about three houses of mine and more importantly on the correct street. I live on a dead end and the other map apps think I live on the next road over and that take you 4 or so miles the wrong way. Also, google tries to take you down a road that is another dead end because it seems to think the foot path at the end is a road.

Fast loading, accurate maps, can save map or route.
Excellent Traffic, better that Apple, Google, and Mapquest (1.8)
12/20/2012 5:31:00 PM
By jon_slider
I use Navigon for navigation, but I use other apps to check traffic. I find Here Maps to have the best traffic display. Apple maps traffic is useless, not visible. Mapquest traffic is very easy to see, but a bit inaccurate. Google maps traffic is pretty accurate, but is not as easy to see as Here Maps. I do not use Google maps to navigate, because it does not integrate with my contacts. Neither does Here Maps access my contacts. Navigon, Apple maps, and Mapquest all have the feature to look up my contacts.
So, to find a new place, I use Apple maps, because I can then save to my address book. I then use Navigon to get there. I check the traffic on the way by looking at Here Maps.
UPDATE SOON!!!! (1.8)
12/20/2012 6:39:00 AM
By K@r!oz
This application needs an update soon. It lags Retina Display support. There was supposed to be "street view." Turn by Turn Navigation would be great. The UI is a little sloppy, there's simply too mucho going on. Most of the search is useless and there are a few bugs.
Reliable and useful (1.8)

Very solid app. Simple and beautiful UI is efficient and easy to use. Especially the geo data are very reliable and lean. The more I used it the more I like it.
Good alternative (1.8)

Chinese pingyin, used neither by the government or everyday local usage, is used instead of English. Not impressed. Good luck with that taking to take off in the HK market.

Terrible. (1.8)
12/16/2012 6:14:00 PM
By StupendousMan
I'm shocked that Nokia released this.
a.) It's just a web app repackaged as an iPhone app - and not a good web app at that, and
b.) in features, UI, and polish it's not remotely close to other quality map applications.
It's a bad joke. Did anyone at Nokia even test this app to see if it's quality? The answer has to be no, because anyone using an iPhone since the app store opened would know that that the standard for success is much higher than this.
Not so good (1.8)
