Comments and Ratings for Evernote – stay organized

5/25/2017 5:10:53 PM 4/5 By Denduronz
I have come to love Evernote and find mysef using it not just school work, but also for personal projects. It has come in very handy when completing tasks and having to recall certain articles for reference. As great as it is though, I would love for there to be a NIGHT MODE or a darker scheme for low light situations.

Switching after years of using Evernote (6.11)
5/18/2017 6:27:39 PM 4/5 By Ozer
I was one of the early users of Evernote and have been with them through every release for years. As mobility became more of a factor, I migrated to the cloud and share my files across tablets, laptop, and phone. In the recent past, Evernote moved to limit the number of devices on which I can use the program. This encouraged me to look at Microsoft OneNote. It’s great and I am leaving Evernote behind. I admit that I wouldn’t have looked for another application if I hadn’t been forced to choice two devices to which to limit my usage. As a writer and a frequent international traveler, this doesn’t work for me. I’m grateful to Evernote for the past but I’m now embracing Microsoft OneNote and loving it. Evernote users should check out alternatives before upgrading. You may be pleasantly surprised as I was.

EBS (6.11)

I have found over time, that the application, Evernote is the best thing "since sliced bread.” I record all of my Information Technology (IT) research queries and results, retain all of my manuals, readmes, FAQs, and all of the notes I have taken on troubleshooting issues on both Macintosh and Windows platforms. It is a very, very handy tool that allows me to categorize my documents with folders, tags, and naming convention making them easy to access. I don’t know what I would do without this tool. I can also share with others who have this application. It has a cloud presence, and an application that can be downloaded to the desktop which syncs (rarely have I have any synchronization problems, but received immediate response from the support group when I did). Other features include a “Web clipper” add-on for all browsers and you are able to send emails to Evernote which creates a note of the email! Wonderful!

Fix minimize maximize note (6.11)

If I put a note in full screen mode on my mac then close it out, the evernote app goes to a black screen and then i have to restart the app. Please sif Also for a app feature, allow to make documents or pdfs sizeable so you can view it while you type, or able to keep on top on of all other windows. Trying to view scanned pages and typing from them is super difficult.

Slimy Business Practice - I’m getting out. (6.11)
5/9/2017 2:10:57 PM 3/5 By RickPickford
I’m disapointed - I started using Evernote last year and it works pretty good. Unfortunately the company has chosen to take the path of sharp business practices. They are taking away functionality and forcing me to “UPGRADE” to keep what I have. I use Evernote on my Macbook, Ipad, & iPhone. Today I went use the program, after not using it for a few months and they are asking me to pay extra, to use the program I paid for, on more than two devices. So for me this signals a change in the developers direction. I resent this move. I’m not renewing the subscription and will no longer use anything from this company. Rick

Great Notetaking App (6.11)
5/8/2017 8:31:44 AM 4/5 By socksket
I regularly use this app to take notes in various classes. It works very well, and notes quickly sync and appear on my phone as well as my laptop. A few of the downsides of this app is that there are very few fonts to choose from. It is also not possible to use superscript or subscript inside of the app, which is quite annoying. All in all a great app for what I use it for.

Terrible for Use Across Devices - BE CAREFUL or Plan to Lose Data (6.11)
5/6/2017 4:31:39 PM 1/5 By TavernMage
The feature failures listed below are Evernote’s Achilles heels for teams. If Evernote cannot fix these - we imagine it is only a matter of time before a competitor like Google replaces them. The moment we find another product that handles both of these - we will be switching away from Evernote. Here are Evernote’s long standing problems. (1) MULTI-USER editing doesn’t Exist. You know how Google Docs lets unlmiited number of people edit a document? Evernote fails to do that. After almost 10 years of upgrades they still haven’t figured it out. The result is that if you are working with a team, each team member will get locked out while another person types. Why is this a problem? Because if you use an iPhone or iPad - it means that the system cannot keep track that you are on two different devices - and as a result - the notes will start to conflict with each other overwriting what you might do on another device. If you are not careful to close the note every single time, you will constantly lose track of which note is the correct one and whether it has all the data. Google Docs doesn’t have this problem. (1) SYNCING function causes data to be lost in endless long “conflicting modifcations” appends. You know how GITHUB highlights difference in the code when you check in? Evernote fails to do that. Instead when notes conflict, they paste them both together into one giant note without any indication of what conflicted. Even if all you did is change just one word from “and” to “or” somewhere - your entire note will be pasted at the bottom of itself with the heading “Conflicting Modifications.” You will lose track of your changes and your data because there is absence of any color highlighting to let you know what might have conflicted. Even worse than that, the notifications for a conflict are very subtle. As a result, it is common for us to discover that dozens and dozens of conflicting modifications have occurred creating a giant multi-megabyte size note. We only begin to notice when editing the note at the top become laggy. What does Evernote need to do to fix these things? (1) Add multi-user editing. How? Because Evernote hasn’t added this in over a decade - it suggests that their markup language prevents it. This means they are stuck. Evernote needs to create a new page type - a multi-user edit page that *abandons* their current markup language. That way they can offer true mutli-user editing in a stripped down environment. Then they slowly add back all the other features of Evernote (i.e. adding pictures, pasted files etc. ) (2) Stop the addendum append madness for conflcting changes. If Evernote fixes multi-user editing as above- then almost all of their sync problems go away that are mentioned above. For any that remain - add a GITHUB type comparison so people can see what was added or deleted and import it into the current note. Stop this addendum madness.

The Best Notes App (For Me) (6.11)
5/4/2017 10:52:26 PM 5/5 By outofshotfilms
Evernote has been in my pocket and on my desktop for about six years now. It has been the premiere note-taking app since the dawn of the app revolution. There’s good reason why companies like Microsoft, Apple and Dropbox - not to mention the tons of other note-taking apps that came later - have picked up many of their features from Evernote. It’s an app that is feature packed while being intuitive and well organized. I was able to pick everything up very quickly when I started. In my opinion, Microsoft’s One Note is the only note-taking app that comes close when comparing features, but I just can’t get in a good workflow with their interface. One feature in particular has made me completely neglect my home scanner. The “document scanner” feature with an iPhone kicks the butts of any other document scanning app I’ve come across - and as mentioned it has caused me to neglect my home scanner. I definitely suggest the app. Of course some users may have a bad experience, but I have not. I’ve used the app on just about every platform - iOS, Andriod Phone, MacOS, Windows PC, Windows Tablets - and have never had any problem. Seriously, I’ve never had a problem. GREAT APP.

Apple Notes Not Like Evernote (6.11)
5/4/2017 5:52:04 PM 5/5 By RockySlaughter
I have noticed that Apple’s Notes interface is getting remarkably similar to Evernote, but nothing beats Evernote’s search function. I have so much information in Evernote, especially in scanned .pdfs that I think my entire life would stop if it were ever to somehow lose my information. This has never happened, but I am looking for a backup option if that is available.

Superb app. I’m addicted (6.11)
4/28/2017 4:06:00 PM 5/5 By patrickwal
I can’t add much that hasn’t already been said. I am utterly dependent on this app to stay organized. From tax info to travel into to TO-DO lists and much much more. I have tens of thousands of notes, and I can find just what I need - sometimes from 3-5 years ago - quickly and easily. If you’re new to it - PLEASE watch the tutorials. It’s easy to miss the powerful functionality just below the surface of the mostly very easy to use interface. It’s worth taking 1 uninterrupted hour to learn how to use this app quickly, well and powerfully. It will save you TONS of time later.

Unfortunate How Evernote Fell (6.11)
4/28/2017 10:47:37 AM 1/5 By CompSciProf
With the latest update, lost formatting in notes. With recent issues with Evernote, I am no longer going to stay a premium customer and going to move over to Bear.

Worst Update Ever (6.11)
4/26/2017 5:07:22 AM 1/5 By Davidoff5705
Unfortunately, I chose to go with the new update and now every single one of my few thousand notes are unrecognizable. I have been an Evernote premium subscriber since 2012 and rely heavily on this program for my business and now cannot work out of my notes because the new update has changed the size, shape and format of my note column and size of text, etc. and rendered all of my notes useless. After submitting a ticket to Evernote Support almost a week ago and not hearing back from anyone in Evernote Support, I searched the Internet for a former version, deleted Evernote completely and re installed the last former version. Thanks a lot for a terrible update and for not getting back to me expeditiously to help resolve the matter Evernote Support Team.

Amazing (6.11)
4/25/2017 6:00:43 AM 5/5 By Camsociety
I have been using Evernote for years but it continues to surprise me with its power. The integration into MAC OS is seamless and powerful. The webclipper feature in Safari is outstanding and the window capture feature on the finder taskbar is a goldmine. It takes two clicks to capture any window and save it. Keep up the great work.

Tables losing formatting at random (6.11)
4/24/2017 12:42:56 PM 1/5 By Evernoting
I rely heavily on tables for some of my notes, but recently I have noticed some of my tables are losing all formatting. That only happens when I am using the Mac app (they are still there if I open Evernote Web).

Very good (6.11)

Great BUT (6.11)

Great but still there are problems with writing right to left.

Awesome App (6.11)
4/20/2017 4:18:15 PM 5/5 By Paul aka The Mayor :-)
I have been using everynote for a very long time and it is one of the best apps ever, for me to be able to save the many articles that I read through the week, keeping a journal, writing thoughts and so many other things. Keep up the good work and thank you again for an awesome program, Paul aka The Mayor :-)

Eats PDFs and upsells (6.11)
4/19/2017 4:57:28 PM 1/5 By candid feedback
I saved several PDFs to evernote, thinking it was a safe place to store them. When I tried to open them, I got an error message that my trial subscription for that feature had expired (even though I was a paid subscriber)… and it said I’d have to upgrade to premium to see the files. I upgraded, followed all the instructions, and NADA… the pdfs are all “corrupted.” HOURS of work is now lost, and I upgraded for nothing. Am downgrading, and will hate this app forever. TOTAL BS that it insisted that I upgrade, only to find that the files aren’t accessible anyway. FAIL.

Best app ever (6.11)

Awesome app

None better & just keeps getting better. (6.11)
4/19/2017 1:35:32 PM 5/5 By ANQUKA
Have used Evernote for years across 5 Mac devices. (2-iMacs, 1-Air, 1-Ipad, 1 Phone). I travel extensively, mostly domestic, managing the health, welfare & travel of 35 horses and support farms. Evernote is the one app I use more than any other app. (Like every 30 minutes or so) The unique thing about Evernote, is that you never have the think about. It just works and syncs. Everytime. It’s untitive. They keep improving, but do so without blowing up the user experience. I never thought to say thank-you to Evernote, until now. 120% satisfied.

Awesome app (6.11)
4/19/2017 8:31:58 AM 5/5 By Chris357!
Really love Evernote. Its all all my devices and I use it for everything. Only complaint is that bullets don’t work quite right sometimes…but other than that, totally awesome.

Awesome App for Organization (6.11)
4/18/2017 8:04:22 AM 5/5 By CoveyWrites
I’ve had Evernote for a while, and this is one of my favorite apps. I have basic, and it is one of my favorites for a lot of reasons. I use it to store all of my written work, which as a writer is pretty important. I’m able to create different notebooks for different subjects, stack those notebooks together into their catagories that go together, and that makes things really easy for organization. There have been a few updates that messed with formatting, but I only noticed a small alteration that was really easy to fix. I write in a multitude of styles, from poetry to short stories, and I also do things like recipe writing, for things like alchoholic drinks and food, as well as planning books for different projects. I am able to store notes for all these different subjects, and still store notes for my classes, and I’m able to easily and comprehensively search through all my notes for words, phrases, and titles. With going on thousands of notes, that is incredibly useful. Furthermore, the cross device integration is incredibly helpful for me, because I also perform, and I use my phone to read. I can create my performance pieces on my laptop, format them to be read from my phone, and then go read from my phone on stage. The nice thing is it happens simultaneously across my devices through auto-syncing. The other thing is, you can also manually sync information between all of your devices with the push of a button. And that is all on basic. I might not ever spend the cash on premium, but I will say that this is a must have app for anyone who likes to write, or needs a digital app for note taking. It will make your life a lot easier and you can do so much more with it. I don’t even use it for things like drawing and presentations (Yet), which from what I understand is another set of features all together. So definitely consider this app. It’s fantastic.

The #1 Program App I use every day - can’t work without it! (6.11)
4/17/2017 9:59:22 AM 5/5 By Slade Roberson
I can’t say enough good things about Evernote. It is a digital companion to my brain. Everything I create starts as a note in Evernote. Every important thing I save ends up as a note in Evernote. The ability to automaticlly sync between multiple devices is the best thing about this program. It was one of the first things I ever encountered that worked “in the cloud” before we talked about “the cloud.” As a writer, data loss is devestating. My use of this program started out as a way to keep/save/sync everything I wrote. It has evolved beyond that. I copy+paste (and compose) a lot of HTML in code - Evernote is able to handle code, rich text, imagery. The flexibility is amazing.

Great App (6.11)
4/13/2017 6:28:25 PM 5/5 By Haggis19
Quick search on notes, ability to share amongst devices, make this one of my most used apps. They have been very responsive to questions. All in all a great experience.

An Indispensible App! (6.11)
4/13/2017 12:41:27 PM 5/5 By Brian Brown
I currently subscribe to the Premium edition (think that’s the name) but not the Team Edition, which has more features. In terms of organization, capturing notes, and storing documentation…I have my “before Evernote” and “after Evernote” life. It’s without question, the most personally important app that I use. I use it dozens of times per day both on my Mac and iPhone. The note tagging function helps you quickly organize and find what notes/content you are looking for. You can encrypt and password protect any sensitive information such as passwords, and you can drag and drop documents into any note, which then becomes viewable and available for download into it’s native file type. You can convert your notes into a URL webpage with a click if you need to share content with someone else. You share via your email, not right out of the app (at least with my edition. I think you need team edition to password protect a shared URL, but you can also take any shared note down at any time if you no longer want to share the content. You can also edit or add content to the shared note without the URL changing, which is handy if you realize you need to edit a note you already shared. Now for my wish list: It would be excellent and highly-useful if Evernote added even simple analytics functionality such as being able to track when shared note/URLs are opened, what kind of devices the URL was opened on, whether or not the URL was forwarded to another unique user, if the documents/files you shared in the shared in the note/URL was viewed and/or downloaded., and perhaps how much time a recipient kept the shared URL open. This would help you understand whether or not the content in your shared URL’s is actually being viewed/consumed and how many unique users consumed the content. I’d also like the ability to password protect shared “public URL”s (Premium subscription) and the ability to set an expiration date for a shared note/URL. I’d welcome any recommendations from other users for apps that integrate with Evernote that offer any of these desired features in-app. I already use bit.ly for tracking opens by converting Evernote shared URLs to a trackable bit.ly URL via a browser plugin, but this should be a simple drop-down option when sharing a URL even if it isn’t an Evernote developed service (so something akin to an Evernote plugin from a third party URL analytics service. While I already pay for the Premium edition, I’d happily pay more for more analytics and password protection options for what are now “public URLs”. It would bring Evernote, which is already a great product, to the next level.

Table Format Changed (6.11)
4/13/2017 9:55:47 AM 2/5 By Dkinli
Same as nkm555. It doesn’t only change the width and height, but also some of font size was changed as well. I fixed serval notes in the first place, however I recognized that maybe not my problem. They look prefect in website but in mac.

GTD - Flexible (6.11)
4/12/2017 11:48:01 PM 5/5 By BeeliSwahili
Evernote is my single productivity app. The Benefits: 1. Extraordinarily flexible. 2. Great linking (create one note and refer to it in many places) 3. Simple abilities that lead to powerful usage 4. Easy enough for simple usage 5. sufficiently sophisticated for complex usage patterns 6. easy to collect snippets of info online 7. easy to collect pics of content digitally 8. Powerful multi-dimensional searching features 9. broadly user defined & customizable to your operational approach to any part or all of your life activities The Challenges: 1. Need to be clear on your intended usage 2. Need to be clear on the applications functionalities 3. My experience is that each usage is very personalized and custom…this is good though it creates challenges when seeking assistance 4. I found limited information to inform how and why I should ‘build’ my usage pattern In truth, I work in Information Technology and I would love to work for Evernote (but i don’t). This solution is amazing. I pay for the Premium version. I’ve created a GTD approach in the application and use Evernote for all aspects of my life. Work (EA Projects, research, requirements collection, meeting notes, thoughts to myself, followup tasks, etc) Home (Home Projects, maintenance activities, birthday tasks, anniversary tasks, etc) Hobbies (woodworking notes, books I read, camping and hiking gear that i’m researching, personal studies, etc) Storage of all information I may eventually refer to etc... If there is something I’m interested in, responsible for, tracking progress on, saving for future reference, dreaming of, etc…it goes into evernote. The META tagging is quite useful, providing a powerful ‘categorization’ method. The search features are impressive. Even identifying words in pictures and in my scribbled and ‘scanned’ notes. The ability to use my iphone to snap a pic of a hand-written note and have that pic be received as a jpg or as a doc type, including OCR, is powerful. One storage point for all of my notes, no matter how I took them. using the META to categorize, as well as NOTEBOOKS to categorize, as well as MASTER Link pages (my own creation) to categorize provide multiple dimensions to locate information rapidly and efficiently when I am searching for them. Being able to combine these search dimensions provides aggressive search & find benefits. Very powerful and EFFECTIVE, which is the key! The camera auto-recognizes a page and automatically determines how to store it, though it provides the ability for the user to easily change the ‘type’. Collecting ‘contact’ information is sooooo easy (most of the time). If a business card is reasonably simple, the Evernote camera automatically detects the object as a business card and imports all of the pertinent information into a “Contact” note. seamless, quick and easy. no mess, no fuss. I never walk away with business cards anymore. All in all, a very enabling, smart, simple to use, flexible application that provides a single location to manage all aspects of my life.

Hosed Table Formatting on Mac (6.11)
4/11/2017 4:25:57 PM 1/5 By nkm555
Terrible; without warning version 6.11 for Mac desktop changed table column width and row height. This unhappy user will have to decide whether it’s worth it to try to fix formatting manually, or finally make the switch to Mac Notes. Grr.

Worthless without syncing (6.10)
4/10/2017 10:28:45 AM 1/5 By cbrynt
No matter how good the app is, if syncing doesn’t work seamlessly, the the app is worthless for anyone using it on multiple devices. Charing the money they do, syncing should not be as poor as it is.

Crashes my computer (6.10)
4/2/2017 1:59:22 AM 1/5 By Tired PA Student
I use Evernote to store my school presentations in “the Cloud” off of my computer. Well, now there is so much stored in Evernote, that I can’t open it up without my computer crashing because it opens up all of the content that is in my Evernote account and my computer doesn’t have enough memory to handle it. Evernote was strongly suggested by my program when we started and several of my classmates are having the same issue. I had to delete the app. Very poor “cloud” app. I wouldn’t even recommend this app to a serial rapist suicide bomber terrorist.
