Comments and Ratings for GarageBand

broken (10.1.4)
12/30/2016 12:00:00 PM 1/5 By hhhhhhhannah
mine doesnt work

Not worth the disk space (10.1.4)
12/27/2016 4:07:00 PM 1/5 By nc.nc2241
Terrible bloated software that loses recorded tracks every minute. Inferior to free programs of similar capabilities.

awesome but needs…. (10.1.4)
12/14/2016 9:01:00 PM 4/5 By Razorstage
I really wish Garageband had a crossfade option for punch in and outs. It would reduce and clicking or popping. Any chance this can be added?

Blue Yeti Mic + GarageBand = GOLDEN (10.1.4)
12/13/2016 2:41:00 PM 5/5 By AustinGiorgio
Read another review saying this garage band was similiar to the ipad version… way different. The MAC one has many features and cool plugins/free sound tracks and such. TOTALLY recemend this to anyone who wants to record for singing. I sing Michael Buble and Frank Sinatra songs

iPAD GarageBand is superior to MAC version (10.1.4)
12/9/2016 8:00:00 AM 1/5 By Uglybro49
I have been using Windows DAWs for 20 years; wife got me an iPAD.. loved it. Loved GarageBand so, jump in! I bought a Mac thinking the computer version with more processing power than a tablet would be superior…WRONG!!! Save yourself a lot of money and stay with the iPAD. It’s obvious that Apple has neglected the computer version of GB. The tablet version has a kazillion more in-apps available, there are many more and better automated instruments and drum tracks… all in all, the iPAD version puts the computer version in the Trash. Don’t waste your money if you want to continue to use GB… stay with your phone or pad. Steve Jobs can’t save you again like the last time you let a bunch of corporate boneheads almost kill Apple. When almost half of your reviews are less than 4 stars, you have a problem. Fix it!! or be history.

Great application but.. (10.1.4)
12/8/2016 7:04:00 PM 4/5 By MyLastSong
What is with the huge updates? I don’t understand why a 900MB update is needed for stability improvments and bug fixes. It’s like we’re downloading the whole application again. I have pretty slow internet so these huge updates for small fixes are kind of crazy

No Sidechain / Ducking (10.1.3)
11/30/2016 2:51:00 PM 2/5 By SeanKyte
Simple, but so needed. Sidechain, shouldn't be exclusive for Logic. It’s a technique used by all mixers, aristis, podcasters.

Its Apple (10.1.3)
11/22/2016 3:32:00 PM 4/5 By fwp333
I have enjoyed working with this version. It would be nice if some user friendly capabilities such as more lists in the mouse over featuere were selectable. Keep up the great work Apple!

Too Much Wind Noise (10.1.3)
11/10/2016 8:46:00 PM 2/5 By Lai Mino
When I create music with Garageband too much wind noise. Is there any way to filter wind noise?

Good for what’s expected of it (10.1.3)
11/8/2016 12:41:00 PM 4/5 By Adriangrumpy
Garageband is very basic which is nice for someone like me who mostly records vocals, guitar, and electronic drums. I can work it enough to get a decent sound. If people are giving it 1 star because it’s not professional enough then they should get another program or pay to go to a studio. This is a program that comes for free with Mac computers. If Mac continues to modify and enhance certain things, that would be awesome. For now, it’s great for what is expected of a free recording program.

Awesome program!!! (10.1.3)
11/8/2016 8:46:00 AM 4/5 By Battery Monitor
I love this program a lot!!! It is sometimes hard to use but I still like it a lot! You can combine your own music with apple loops that come with the app!

Feature Request (10.1.3)
11/4/2016 7:26:00 PM 4/5 By EmCMony
I find GB good for what I use it. I have a feature request where the lyrics written in the place for the text on the right can be synced to the music. Maybe by using markers in the sequencer and a way to write them into the text. The text would then srcoll down depending on what part of the song is playing at the moment.

Easy To Use and Fun (10.1.3)
10/28/2016 8:24:00 PM 4/5 By awksedperl
I've been using GB for years in order to make songs for my own amusement, and also to inflict, er, *share* with my friends. It can also allow you to do some basic hacking on audio files, though you might be better served using a purpose-built app for the that. But it's hard to beat for the price. Two gripes, though: 1) It would be nice if Apple made the original Jam Packs available at least for purchase for GarageBand. I recently purchased MainStage 3 to get those back. 2) Would love to see two-way integration between this and the iOS version of GarageBand. Even if it had to "dumb-down" the tracks to share them with iOS devices, that would still be very useful.

it wont download (10.1.2)

HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT…... (10.1.2)
10/18/2016 10:21:00 PM 1/5 By MEDIAWiRX
What a joke!!! First, like almost every user getting this software, the loops that part of the installation of this sofware DO NOT INSTALL. They download, multiple times, wasting tons of bandwidth every time the software is restarted, trying download and install the loops. THEN, all of a sudden I cannot get any audio to play out of Garageband. Nothing, I didnt turn on or off anything, I didnt delete something, or screw around with settings. It was working, and then, not working!! What in the world. How can this software be so bad from a company that says its stuff ‘Just Works’!???? Stupid app. Im so mad at spending the last two days trying to make something work on this. I feel like its 1996 all over again and Im trying to figure out how to get an audio driver installed and working for some garbage game. This is 2016 and this stuff should be better supported. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!

Lots of flaws. (10.1.2)
10/11/2016 7:26:00 PM 4/5 By ASAP_Ratchet
Its not bad. I’ve been producing music for about a year now and I have been able to make some songs that definitely arent high quality, but it gets the job done. However, when I recently took a trip to the Apple store I started up garageband on one of their Macbooks and saw lots of loops and instruments that I dont have! There is no available update and I really am missing out on alot. Not a reliable DAW if you’re looking for one. Going to take FL Studio here soon. -Player One

CrashBand (10.1.2)
10/3/2016 12:19:00 PM 1/5 By jamesbarnes
I have no idea if GarageBand is easy to use, if it sounds great, if it would produce decent recordings, mix well, or do anything at all to compete with similar software. I have no idea about any of these things because I have quite literally been unable to use any of its features. Sure, I can launch the app, but that’s about it. Drag and drop a wav file into a new project? Crash. Open a project from an older version of garageband? Crash. Open an iPad garageband project via iCloud? Crash. Start a fresh project with nothing in it? Crash. Wait, it gets worse. Attempt to force quit GarageBand? Nope, can’t do that.. Reboot your mac? Nope, can’t do that because garageband is still open. Issue a “kill” command via terminal to shut down garageband? Nope, no such process exists. I was seriously considering Logic for a project I’m starting, but I have no faith that apple can write functional music software at this point.

Perfect App for such a price (10.1.2)
9/22/2016 9:37:00 PM 5/5 By A.Chakery
This app came with my MacBook Pro for free and I believe this App is perfct since its free and it does many tasks which other paid apps are doing. I believe even $5 is nothing considering the fact that you will be able to install it on all of your mac Machines.

Not as good as logic pro (10.1.2)
9/22/2016 4:46:00 AM 4/5 By Mar-Chan01
I love this software, I use it to produce all my songs. Although after I had a chance to witness what logic pro is like, I was slightly disapointed with garageband.

Has Apple Gone Backwards Since 2005?? (10.1.2)
9/21/2016 8:06:00 AM 2/5 By 72doobie
I’m still up in the air about even wasting all that time downloading it, I actually enjoyed the little Mac Suite you used to get when you bought a system. My first Mac, and I still have it, was a G5 with the IBM processors in it.I bought that right around 2004-sh?! I still have all my old software which is still loaded on the G5 and I also still have the first Final Cut Pro Suite. All this software/hardware, was so easy to use, Apple really did a good job with make the computer more as a tool to get things done in a timely manner, thank you Steve Jobs, I have absolutely no idea what happened after he passed, but everything has changed and to be honest with you, all the interfaces are crap, cheesy, so not professional like it used to be. I remember when a Mac was a nice piece of equipment to have in your home. Solid, has weight to it, instead of some flimsy piece of plastic, but for the last decade even, Apple is getting their name dragged through the mud. The reason I bought a Mac back in my film school days, was because it was so nice and worked great, pretty much idiot proof, and just was so sleek, and almost intimidating to an extent, especially if you are used to a PC. Mac was made for heavy professional, art, music, film, etc. Why would you ever consider starting to look more and more like a PC and the software has become a hassle and confusing and time wasting to the point that you could care less about even doing a project. Like I said earlier, I still love to make my music and my short films and I’m so happy I never got rid of my G5, it did cost me $5000-$6000! I bought a fully loaded G5 because of what I was going to be doing. That was my first computer as a matter of fact and the learning curve was almost nonexsistent. Mac just laid everything out just right, I was running all the the preloaded apps that were included. iMovie was so great back then, so easy to use, pretty much a smaller version of Final Cut. Garageband was very easy to use, I made up a little tune within the first 5 minutes of using it, never really worked on a computer before that. When I look at Macs nowadays, as the kids are messing around on them, I can’t help but think of how god awful the interfaces to all the programs are, the 100 moves you have to make to just import a basic clip into iMovie. I would almost settle for in camera edit at this point, but like I said, I’m very much stoked about getting my real Mac going. I miss the way everything just looked and performed. Always trying to fix something that’s not broke!

Does well for the price/what it is (10.1.2)
9/3/2016 5:09:00 PM 4/5 By FangSky17987
Overall, I’ve been very happy with GarageBand… been plugging it in through my Line 6 Amplifi for recording purposes for about a year now and it’s worked well. However, I’ve noticed that recorded instruments or sounds seem to experience a decrease in sound quality and fullness in playback and export. I don’t experience this with other audio apps on my Mac so I assume it’s a GarageBand issue, and it would be nice to see it fixed somehow.

Needs Improvement But Works Well (10.1.2)
9/3/2016 9:22:00 AM 4/5 By Burnsengine
I find lots of things to be desired. Particularly where it pertains to drums and the over-modulating-over-indulging “mid” vocals. Admittedly, I’m an “intermediate” sound engineer. That is to say: I get it. I can do it. I just can’t do it great as some of my good friends can. Every once in a while I get very lucky and the mix comes out just *** kiss finger tips **** Beautiful!!!! But, as a musician, I can apply pretty much everything under the sun on this program without crashing. I’ve got several songs running over 24 tracks, WITHOUT mixing down. To me, that’s a pretty stable platform. All the others tend to crash with that many tracks running. I’m pleased with the guitar sounds, boards and realism of the drum loops (plus, they’re easy to copy/paste if you want to alter a beat). The vocals are where I have the most difficulty- especially where I’m duplicating vocal tracks. They don’t always “duplicate” exactly and I find the mid ranges end up completely over the top. Unless you’re using a multi-band compressor, the mids are going to take off on you. So, take that simple hit and run with it. One other beef I have, as someone has already stated, sending the song from GB to iTunes is NOT the same mix and often comes out far different. And yes, I’m doing everything on the back end with the compressor, volume controls, using the AU units to keep the sound consistent. One day, I decided to test this theory out. I ran the exact same song with the exact same settings, five different times. I’m here to tell you…. I got FIVE DIFFERENT sounds, relatively speaking. It was close, but it was not what I was hearing on the final mixdown. As for drums, there are tons of “beats” but few drums. If you’re into rockabilly, rock, funk, country, pop, etc…. with more traditional drum sounds, then you’ve basically got 12 different styles in 3 variations. That’s NOT much. However, if you’re using “beats”, you pretty much have the farm. You’ll edit for the next 10 years without running out of options. Good news is: with a decent slave or midi board, you can just easily create your own drum tracks inside of 20 minutes AND keep them forever. I do like that and they sound surprisingly realistic. The editor responds well in real time - no lag - and I’m able to run an entire drum track with just my keyboard (sorry, never was much of a drummer… but I’m working on it!!!) Well, 6 months into this, and I’m learning the tricks and differrent nuances of GB.. and I’m finding a variety of ways around it. Sometimes, you just have to go with the flow. Ultimately, I usually get what I’m after. Just takes some patience. Now that I’ve bashed GB, the truth is: it’s easy to use. A trained monkey can run it and record on it. The automated instruments, although I never use them, is actually fairly decent. And if you’re keyboard heavy, or studio musician, this program is right up your alley. GB does VERY well with keys and direct record. If you’re vocal heavy, or depend on live sound recording, I would probabkly consider another app. Ta.

GO BACK (10.1.2)
9/3/2016 2:21:00 AM 2/5 By Gardner Dorton
I used to love garageband it was so easy to use and had a lot of potential for great sounding songs on a budget. However, since I got my new mac garageband is unnecessarily confusing and sounds horrible. I would pay 100 dollars for the 2011 version of garageband but i dont even want to record with this version.

garageband for iPad has no track delete button (10.1.2)
8/30/2016 5:05:00 AM 2/5 By aceintheholefc
this one time I was on this app and I found a button that send me to the audio tracks and I saw that there were two of them and I was trying to gat rid of one and it bush the get out of the save file button and when I got back there were three audio tracks.I did the process a few more times and it just keeped making more tracks.all because I could not find the delete button! If you could make it so that it would it easier to see the delete button!I really can’t find it anywhere!!!

more like GarbageBand (10.1.2)
8/29/2016 12:50:00 AM 2/5 By Mike Kay
can’t decide what I like more... The constant crashing that keeps me from being able to even open the music that I just spent six months working on, or the way when I try to open something from iCloud Drive, it tells me I need to turn on iCloud Drive, and then when I turn on iCloud Drive, it tells me I need to turn on iCloud Drive, so I go and check and make sure iCloud Drive is on, and do it again, and it tells me I need to turn on iCloud Drive, and I wonder if the programmers at Apple are all stoned, stupid, or both, that they can’t even get their own programs to talk to each other correctly...

Oh how I miss the old version of Garageband (10.1.2)
8/17/2016 10:40:00 PM 1/5 By 7Rainbows4U
Heartbreaking. I used to use the older version and loved it. Every time I had an idea, I put it down quick fast and easy. Now, it’s all a headache and not fun at all. I wish I hadn’t upgraded because I just am not happy with it. Not one bit. :( Disaster.

worst quality and technically inept app of all time (10.1.2)
8/13/2016 5:46:00 AM 1/5 By J Ebeling
Enough said. Try Ampkit, nano studio, heck ANY studio is better than GB. My experience with its cheap quality truly is dissappointing & is the reason I wont buy Logic X. Sooo many others are sooo much better. Shame on apple! Who techies dont even know anything about it.

Only one complaint (10.1.2)
8/5/2016 4:33:00 PM 4/5 By Kingjjjyrdjoihcb
Great app! One thing that would make it 5 stars is acoustic amps and not only electric amps. Amps that give a sound like a Fishman amp would or any other acoustic amp. At least one of these would be nice just to be able to record a natural sound. The electric amps are awesome and theres tons to choose from so great job there.

One thing (10.1.2)
7/31/2016 7:14:00 AM 4/5 By Colio2014
If you read this, please fix whatever is making my songs sound bad when I share them to iTunes. i can’t exactly describe how it sounds, but it sounds really compressed and weird. It is making me unhappy with the product. Everything else is fine, but I just can’t go on with this issue. Thank you for your work.

More Sounds - Great! (10.1.2)
7/31/2016 5:39:00 AM 5/5 By Kevin Kerry Boyce
I love the creativity it brings to my attention! but, im a Dubstep fan and maybe if you added a dubstep and EDM loops section, alot of us users would much appreciate it. Otherwise it is a great program to bring out your inner musical self! Thanks Apple!
