Scrolling is obnoxious!!!! (1.12.4)
8/17/2016 10:27:00 PM 1/5 By soudaburger
I’m sorry, but the fact that I found posts on google from FOUR years ago about smooth scrolling in the app that still has not been resolved is a travesty. I don’t always like reading a full page before scrolling. I generally like to keep my eyes reading at the same height and slowly scroll as I read lines. It’s so frustrating that there is NO option to do this. This should be a simple fix to add the ability to do this. I’m sure there are a ton of people that feel the same way. Add it. Make your customers happy. Otherwise, they will continue to abandon your app and find other files to read or other ways to avoid using your product.

It seems like one is updating this software any more (1.12.4)
8/17/2016 9:53:00 PM 1/5 By eddilin2008
I had a Mac last year, and I am reading both from Chinese (z.cn) and American Amazon, so I installed the Mac version of kindle on my Mac, so I could read on my computer instead of holding on to kindle at work. It worked fine roughly a year ago, until recently. This is how it happened, first I thought it was a login problem. Because I switch frequently from Chinese and US amazon, I know the server of CHN is not that stable, so I never used this APP to read any Chinese books. But I could open up my local Chinese book and read from there. I only login in to my US account to read. So I was really happy using this. There was one time, I just purchased a new Chinese book, and I wanted to take a look at, so I decided to risk it. And it froze for like forever!! So I force quit it, and trying to login back in my US account, froze. Then I just give up, I just want to read offline, do not login into any kind of amazon account, still froze. I even tried several times to install and uninstall it. No luck! They haven’t provided a new version of this APP since 2016. I think the problem occured when the latest version was out (Oct, 2015), and it automatically updated. Now that this APP DOES NOT WORK for anything! So if anyone wants to read off from your Mac, no way using this app.

Won’t even open on mac (1.12.4)

If you can avoid at all cost.

Works great on all my devices (1.12.4)
8/15/2016 5:51:00 PM 5/5 By partickstump
I love this app. I use it on my mac pro, macbook pro and iPad pro. It syncs perfectly, right where I left off on all these devices. I love that I can “pick up” my books anywhere, especially if I have to wait an appointment, picking up kids from school etc.

Not working (1.12.4)

Book wont download! App crashes constantly!!!

Abandoned support for older MacOS (1.12.4)
8/9/2016 7:35:00 PM 2/5 By NotarySojac
This version will not run on any MacOS prior to 10.8. The prior version that will run on SnowLeopard (1.10.6) is available on several sites, but Amazon has now blocked this version from connecting to one's Amazon account to sync their books. Exhorting us to update to a newer version of MacOS is pointless due to compatability with expensive software and the awful user interfaces of newer MacOS versions (we tried them out and soon returned to SnowLeopard).

Search Tool (1.12.4)
7/25/2016 10:16:00 PM 1/5 By Ssclight
I’m not sure what it is about the MacBook Kindle app, but when I use the search tool, the program takes forever to find the terms I’m looking for. This can get extremely frustrating because I like to purchase the Kindle versions of review guides so that I can quickly reference a concept while I’m studying without having to flip through several textbooks. Strangely, when I use the Kindle search tool on my iPad, it is SO much faster. I just wish I could do everything on my laptop instead of having to have both my laptop and iPad out.

such crap.. (1.12.4)

in contrast with the iphone app, mac version need much improvements

needs A LOT of work (1.12.4)
7/17/2016 1:22:00 AM 1/5 By cozmikdaisey
I’m giong to have to join those giving this app low scores for the terrible job it does. It has not changed other than in superficial cosmetic ways in YEARS. There is really no reason I can think of why it is so very basic. The iOS version is fantastic. You can manually sort both your books and your collections. There’s that great feature that lets you read a book description. I have hundreds of books in my library and I can’t remember all of them. None of this is available in the desktop version. The app store doesn’t even offer the most recent version of the app. Although, I’m actually glad for that at the moment, since I’m have to go back to this older version because the newest version (1.16) is actually worse. Amazon, you need to fix this!

How to logout from a Macbook Air (1.12.4)
7/13/2016 4:35:00 AM 1/5 By Tumbling_cheer
I know this may sound stupid but i really dont know how to logout of this thing. i have second account and accidentally logged onto an older one that had no books on it, so if someone could please just tell me how to logout from a Macbook Air then that would be great.

Hates Magic Mouse (1.12.4)
6/30/2016 6:21:00 PM 1/5 By robchronos
My number one problem with the Kindle app is how it works (or doesn’t work) with Apple’s Magic Mouse. That Magic Mouse has a touch-sensitive surface for scrolling, which is a joy in every other app. However, if your mouse pointer happens to be over the Kindle window (even if the Kindle app is in the background) and your finger brushes the surface of the mouse every so slightly, your Kindle book will scroll MANY pages away from its current location. Then you have to switch to the Kindle app, figure out whether the book scrolled forward or backward and laboriously return to the page you were on. Amazon has been aware of this problem for at least 5 years and yet they choose not to fix it. And the fix is SOOO simple. If I wrote code like that, I would fire myself. Just a really bad engineering decision.

Worthless (1.12.4)
6/29/2016 3:55:00 AM 1/5 By LB NC
Update: I’m bumping from a 1 to a 3. I went to Amazon and downloaded the most current version of the app from there, version 1.16.0. that works much better. Still didn’t get my collections to show as collections, but at least I have my books available now and sorted in “the most recent” order I prefer. LB Original review: I never do reviews, but I feel I have to add to the 1 star review here. I just downloaded this app so I could read some recently purchased job related boots on my macbook. Install was easy and fast. However, when I opened it, it was nowhere near the quality I have on my Kindle eReader or my iPhone. It showed 3 “new” books that are nowhere in my set of books. The rest of the list contained the correct specified number, but not all are showing up and I’ve yet to find a way to get them to. Even with specifying “sort by most recent”, all I’m seeing are books that are over a year old. It also did not import my collections as collections. When I choose the option to import collections, the list box is empty. I’ll wait a few hours and see if this self corrects, otherwise this is going straight to the trash bin.

Slightly better one on Amazon (1.12.4)
6/24/2016 6:49:00 AM 1/5 By Christophere777
Not sure why this situation exists, but like other users on here, I found this to be a poor excuse of an app from Amazon. If you go on your into the Kindle store and click “Free Reading Apps”, the Kindle program that is loaded there is only slightly better (you can choose between two fonts!). I’m disappointed with both because I prefer to have some space between lines.

I’ll give 0 star if I can. (1.12.4)
6/21/2016 2:13:00 AM 1/5 By Jerry.Ye
It is the worst app I have ever used on Mac. It’s unbelieveable that it was made by Amazon. Hard to use and every bit of tools inside the app will iritate you somehow. They could have made it better just by learning to Adobe Reader, but they didn’t. I also read on Kindle for iPad and Kindle paperwhite, which are both great, but the Kinle on Mac….. come on. Just try to keep away from this app, or it will ruin your good mood every time you try to use it.

Does not sync with all devices (1.12.4)
6/11/2016 8:49:00 PM 3/5 By Misrana
I use the Kindle reading app on my iPhone and my iPad seamlessly. My pages are always synced up (sometimes maybe one or two off, but cloes enough that it doesn’t bother me at all). With the desktop app though, it does not sync pages, and my collections are missing. I had hoped to use the desktop app to “clean up” my collections for my devices, but since they don’t sync, what’s the point? The Kindle app is great to read on, and I would still recommend it to people, but this needs to be fixed.

Barely adequate (1.12.4)
6/8/2016 5:42:00 PM 2/5 By Larry_Hinman
Companies get comfortable when they have a monopoly, and it’s hard to imagine any other excuse for such a poor product. Once you buy a Kindle book (and I have over 1,000), there is only one program that you can read them on: hte Kindle app. I would gladly pay for a better app, such as one that allows annotations with Apple Pencil or other styluses, but Kindle books are locked so that you cannot go to the competitor for a reading app. The result is an app that is years behind development. It works as a basic, few-frills app, but that’s it.

NOT working!! (1.12.4)

Downloaded this some time ago and had been working fine. Suddenly today it is not working had to delete ane redownload and it is still not working :(

Great Improvement (1.12.4)
5/30/2016 6:37:00 PM 5/5 By David Lar
One Improvement that I like about this version over the previous Kindle software on the Mac, is when truning the page using two fingers swipe, it only turns one page. On the previous version it would scrub through the whole book causing me to constantly lose my place. This makes this software usable. Glad I tried this software again.

Beach-balling (1.12.4)

Crashes repeatedly on MacBook OS 10.10.5. Blech!

Pretty good, but had to replace mouse to get rid of page turn instability. (1.12.4)
5/17/2016 12:59:00 AM 4/5 By Buffettish One
I really love the Kindle app. The ability to search the text of your book collection is priceless. …as well as having a portable library, that is lightweight, cloud-stored, easily-organized, damage-resistant, synced across devices, with annotations, bookmarks, & highlighting. I love the inverted color scheme option and the customizability of text size &columns, the clickable table of contents, etc... Hence I have a few hundred books on my Kindle library; more than I have time to read, but happily have at my disposal. The Amazon Kindle ecosystem is amazing! Now for the gripes: When highlighting from one page to the next, the app seems to have trouble continuing the highlighted text; this usually precipitates an annoying bout of adjusting the text size from the page before or so, in order to get the highlighted text all on one page. For a period, the app was almost unusable (unfortunately, I don’t know which version, but I think it was in the past year or so), and clicking on the next-page-margin would cause the Kindle app to skip a random number of pages at once. About this time, I switched to a CORDED Logitech M500 mouse (from the wireless Apple Magic Mouse), which worked very nicely, and after which there were no more exasperating page-skipping issues, with the added bonus of a working page scroll wheel. (As I have not tested, it is also possible, that the Kindle update fixed it at the just about the same time I replaced the iMac’s mouse.) Mysteriously, however, the About Kindle stats claim that it was last updated on Dec 14, 2014, even though it has version 1.12.4 (41014, which is supposedly the current version, today May16, 2016). Anyway, other than the highlighting issue past the visible page, the Kindle app works great. I can’t wait to get a 10” tablet to replace my lost Paperwhite. For a long time, I had postponed updating the Kindle app, as a few reviews had said that their apps were completely trashed after updating, either crashing or not being able to download anything. As I have a lot of controversial books, such as David Ray Griffin books on 9/11, books on Operation Gladio, the Kennedy assassination, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I was really worried too, esp. b/c Amazon had won a contract from the CIA worth $600 million. Fortunately, my Kindle app is chugging along. We may have some hoodlums in our bloated security apparatus and some Orwellian Operation Mockingbird stuff, wasteful disinfo ops, and blacklisting, but there is still a vibrant discussion in our country. There is enough dispersion of knowledge, that despite the kooks, red herrings, disappearing info, and disinfo ops, there are at least a few million people that in the information age, can see past the mythmaking, subversion of our ideals, and machinations. We are still from far from 1984 or the Soviet bloc, but let us not create excuses to push that way. Thanks Amazon for your noble role in society.

crashes (1.12.4)
5/16/2016 8:30:00 AM 1/5 By Danny in CHains
The app after a while of fine usage this place that stores hundreds of dollars worth of textbooks crashes on launch. 1 star until it is fixed (as far as i can tell it isn’t my computer on which every other app is working as normal).

Irritating app (1.12.4)
5/16/2016 1:45:00 AM 1/5 By KEM2
Why cant I change fonts, or , enable continuous scrolling on this app? Come on Amazon, page by page turning is a royal PITA and horrible for reading technical docs.

It’s Good, but difficult to turn pages. (1.12.4)
5/9/2016 11:14:00 PM 3/5 By Alabamaguy905
This app is great but in the update I would like to see an improvement on the pages function. Its hard to turn pages on the macbook pro. It feels like a mobile app and should be changed a little. I would buy more on kindle if this app was better. I rate three stars.

Really Bad !!!!! (1.12.4)
5/5/2016 9:19:00 AM 1/5 By Pikuko
The worst part about this app is that when you scroll to the next page, you dont know if you when to the next page or you still in the same since it tends to jump back and forward.

Clunky, difficult to use, unresponsive (1.12.4)
5/5/2016 3:48:00 AM 1/5 By WGarymartin
When I open a document in iBooks or Preview, I can easily scroll through the document. I can search for things. In Kindle app, all of these are so difficult. Just trying to scroll through a document is a horror show. Maybe it’s OK for light reading, but not at all for any sort of more serious document use. I knpw Amazon is protecting their revenue stream, but this is truly unusable.

A great way to read kindle books (1.12.4)
5/4/2016 11:08:00 PM 5/5 By Crybaker737
I have a kindle and a iphone. I dont always want to or have my kindle with me so being able to read them via the app on my iphone is great. It always works as its supposed to and i love the intergrating with goodreads.

My Documents (1.12.4)
5/3/2016 4:05:00 PM 3/5 By rds1209
Mac Version does not allow viewing of my personal documents. All version of your app should work the same; iPad, iPhone, and Mac. Also, pages do not always sync across devices.

No Fonts? What is this, 1984? (1.12.4)
4/30/2016 8:29:00 AM 1/5 By william_cooper
Not even serif/sans-serif? A reading “program" on the pioneering “desktop publishing” platform really should have a few font choices. I’m not asking for major surgery; just a few choices like Helvetica, Futura, Lucida, Caslon, Georgia… anything but just… TIMES !!! Hell, even Arial or Verdana would be welcome (hint: SOMETHING WITHOUT SERIFS). Four stars if you fix. One star is “hate it” and hate it I do right now. Update 05/11/15: Still no support for fonts. Update 04/30/16: STILL no font choices. STILL a piece of garbage written by garbagemen. Can’t even get it to stay on the same page. Keeps jumping all around if I don’t keep my hand off the Apple mouse. What kind of BS is that? Prison terms for the coders is the only reasonable outcome. Many have been jailed for lesser crimes.
