Comments and Ratings for Microsoft Remote Desktop

Tipical MS (8.0.35.)
11/6/2016 5:52:00 AM 1/5 By Lidra_ro
This application is not able to save its own options. Every time I create a new connection, it holds its options and works properly. Once you close it and restart it, Full screen mode changes to Custom and now the connection starts wrong. No matter what I did its always the same. Removed the application, deleted all the connections, it doesnt work. You can only edit your connection every time before you start. This should not pass simple testing of any product. MS please fix.

Copy-paste is suddenly broken; the client doesn’t login to remote system (8.0.35.)
11/4/2016 6:33:00 PM 1/5 By Евгений Баскаков
I’ve been on Microsoft Remote Desktop at work for a while, and I was even happy with the recent updates (now it remembers the fullscree/scale settings, doesn’t require to enter your target system login password). But Microsoft loves to break things. Copy-and-paste between the systems suddenly stopped working today! Now I have to send documents over email back and forth just to syncronize small pieces of text between my computes. It’s just unbelievable... why?! how that simple feature can break?! I remember the same issue was there six months ago, and they fixed it eventually. Now it’s broken again. The new version 8.0.35 doesn’t login to the target remote system anymore, so I have to enter the password. Redicious, why does MS do these things… I think this is the reason why I will ever buy anything from MS on my own.

This app exudes the typical care that Microsoft puts into all its apps (8.0.35.)

In other words, it’s janky and crufty, with an unintuitive UI. Exactly what you’d expect from Microsoft.

As a replacement for Remote Desktop Connection its good (8.0.35.)
11/3/2016 12:05:00 AM 4/5 By cube23
I am on a 2011 MacBook Pro and I have to access a Win 7 desktop at my office. I think its much better than Remote Desktop Connection because it is very quick at accessing the office computer and seems to have less issues with scrolling/refreshing. Its not perfect and it probably doesn’t suit everyone’s needs for remote software - but it beats watching progress spinners and then getting connection failed messages constantly.

Resets display settings, annoying. (8.0.35.)
11/1/2016 8:16:00 PM 3/5 By MPX-4132
Every time I click the disconnect button to disconnect from the PC, the display goes black and takes a couple of seconds to exit. The annoying part is that it RESETS THE FREAKING DISPLAY SETTINGS EVERY TIME! It resets them from “Native” to “Custom” for no reason! Irritating, because I can’t switch between desktops.

Just ‘Wow" (8.0.35.)

This used to be an OK tool for my RDP needs on the road, but this version this past week at 3 different hotels (and my Verizon tethering) totally isn’t usable. I have no clue what happened to this version, but it constantly drops connection every 3-6 seconds and auto reconnects 2 to 4x then stops working. I reverted back to using a Win7 VM on my OSX, Win7 (MSTSC) RDP is rock stable and no issues there.

Usable but needs work (8.0.35.)
10/26/2016 3:57:00 PM 2/5 By Jabajee
With Microsoft’s might behind this product, one would wonder why it still looks like something written as a hobby . Settings continue to not be saved on Sierra. Client version is 8.0.35.

One of the worst applications. (8.0.35.)
10/26/2016 2:30:00 PM 1/5 By Deligrasik
Complete trash.

With all the complaints (8.0.35.)
10/25/2016 4:03:00 AM 5/5 By 300cPilot
I thought I should put a positive in here for this app. I live in it 10-12 hours per day for the last year & a half and have had none of these issues. If your using a magic mouse you will have better luck if you turn on left click on it prior to connecting. I have the Sierra patch that came out today and the latest of Microsoft Remote Desktop app. The full screen runs without issue, even across 3 monitors. I have a 2012 MBP with an i5, SSD and 16 gigs of ram. If you are running only 4 gig’s of ram then you will want to not run this across more than one monitor. Also in the preferences within the Remote Dektop app, you must add the resolutions of your actual monitors, if it is not shown. This will make full screen not appear in a window/box. Copy and pasting between your Mac and the Remote Windows box will depend on your internet speed, mostly your upload speed. Don’t expect a movie or even a large picture to copy over it. Copying text or small documents from one to the other works fine for me. I just use the right click that I enabled prior to connecting.

1 unwanted step forward, 3 needed steps broken (8.0.35.)
10/22/2016 5:37:00 AM 1/5 By aloshka09
Been 2 years, still missing basic functions and every update breaks something new and introduces something useless no one wants. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next thing they release forces updates down your throat and will automatically shutdown the remote machine without your knowledge, show ads everywhere based on the content of your computer.. oh wait, that’s called windows 10. The new thing they broke this version is fullscreen no longer works. It’s always fullscreen and no longer shows up in a space. At least the toolbar got much bigger; you know if you are blind or need to fill up your 30” monitor with 4 buttons.

Dual monitor support broke (8.0.35.)
10/22/2016 1:48:00 AM 2/5 By Jon G427
I’ve been using earlier versions of this app for a while. Dual monitor support was working smoothly… latest update broke my perfectly functioning dual monitor usage. Please get this fixed ASAP.

Does not connect with OS Sierra (8.0.35.)
10/21/2016 10:35:00 PM 1/5 By Geauxsyd
Not working with OS Sierra. Needs to be updated as its useless at this point for anyone who has updated their computer.

Completely Broken on Sierra (8.0.35.)
10/20/2016 6:16:00 PM 1/5 By PeterWall
This software does not connect at all since upgrading to macOS Sierra. Now I feel like an idiot for upgrading my MacBook Air to Sierra first—the one I need to use when I’m traveling—before I upgraded my iMac at home. Now I’m high and dry.

Does the basics ok, advanced stuff is terrible (8.0.35.)
10/19/2016 7:35:00 PM 3/5 By ember1205
The interface is somewhat non-intuitive for settings up new connections and editing them becaue there’s no “Save” option. You make your changed and click the “X” to close the dialog. Full Screen Mode settings are a joke - no matter what you configure, it does it what it wants after you close the session and reverts back to “Custom” mode. There are a lot of complaints / agreements with other reviews about this issue alone yet MS does nothing to address it.

works with VPN and Domain controlers (8.0.35.)
10/18/2016 11:43:00 PM 4/5 By pdmark
the only real issue I have is how the left and right click work. and you don’t map copy and past from the mac key board to the windows RDP correct. also copy and past from the Mac desktop the the RDP desktop needs work still.

Duplicate releases?? (8.0.35.)
10/16/2016 5:33:00 PM 3/5 By JeffClay
Why release version 8.0.35 on 10/13 then release 8.0.35. on the 15th with the EXACT same release notes?

Microsoft at its worst (8.0.35.)
10/16/2016 11:13:00 AM 1/5 By <Paul>
It seems nobody at microsoft can be bothered to test their software anymore. Even this extremely simple utility is rigged with bugs and every single release tends to break something. It is the third build in a row that can’t properly save its setting in macOS Sierra. Only the last entry is retained, but it always reverts to a custom full-screen mode which drives me nuts. Also what genius at microsoft decided it’s a good idea to match the current input language at macOS? We log in to remote systems to administer them which means English should be chosen by default. What’s even worse, for every launched application windows reverts to whatever exotic macOS language is chosen. Please fix this or at least make it a preference.

Number after app name (8.0.35)
10/15/2016 8:40:00 PM 2/5 By EdiPhone
After intalling the app, it shows with numbers in the name in Applications, something like "Microsoft Remote Desktop_83407”. Deleting the app until they fix this.

Microsoft Remote Desktop_8027218? (8.0.35)
10/15/2016 1:09:00 AM 4/5 By Seeemef
Last similar snafu was "MicrosoftRemoteDesktop". What's with the bungled names?

The app name is different again (8.0.35)
10/14/2016 11:23:00 PM 3/5 By Primark
Please note that when you download this version of Microsoft Remote Desktop (8.0.35) it replaces the existing app in the Applications folder (as it should), but the app has a different name (numbers appear after the name), so the Dock alias doesn’t work. This is at least the second times this has happened recently (the last time all the spaces in the app name were removed) and it just makes unnecessary work for people. Don’t know if Microsoft or Apple is responsible for this, but I sure wish they would stop doing it.

Network is Unreachable after update (8.0.35)
10/14/2016 8:34:00 PM 1/5 By Sunny Gill
Getting Network is Unreachable error after the update yesterday. Was working perfeclty fine before. Can remote in just fine with Citrix, but this is broken.

Mouse Pointer is Black in Visual Studio Black Theme (8.0.34)
10/11/2016 5:59:00 PM 3/5 By Huang Loysm
the app works fine, but the mouse pointer is BLACK(not WHITE) when Visual Studio is setted to black theme so it is hard to find the mouse pointer in Visual Studio

Useless (8.0.34)
10/4/2016 11:14:00 PM 1/5 By Zman Miller
None of the connections I used to have in here work any more.

CAPS Do not always work on Remote Desk Top (8.0.34)
10/4/2016 1:21:00 AM 2/5 By ImBlakea
The new Remote Desktop takes a little time to adjust to. For the most part, it does the job. It is unfortunate that I can not count on the program to always work. I need the CAPS to work 100% of the time when needed. It works great and then it does not, forcing me to quit the session log out of the program and restart. That can work or not. It is a situation that comes and goes. Very frustrating.

Please update to fix the tabbing brought on by Sierra (8.0.34)
9/29/2016 5:02:00 AM 4/5 By TopJimmy68
When opening a session that is not full screen, the session is contained in the main window of the app, and other sessions get tabbed along with it. The behaviour wasn’t there until the macOS Sierra update, which introduced “OS tabbing” to applications. Please update the windowing to stop the madness. Thanks.

Nice Idea, but most recent 8.0.34 update has made it unusable (8.0.34)
9/26/2016 11:17:00 AM 3/5 By leefis
I have been using this app for the past year, but since the last update 8.0.34 it has become unusable. It takes several minutes to establish a connection, and then there is a black screen only. Within minutes of having a connection, it is lost again and the process repeats. I am using the exact same hardware as before, both computers are very new (less than 1yr old) with excellent specs. The network is also cable 80Mbit/Sec so I do not think that is an a matter of inadequate hardware or slow networks. Linking to ‘Report an Issue' takes one to a general message board.

Major Oversight (8.0.34)
9/22/2016 5:29:00 PM 1/5 By Goldie8626
I have been using the native RDC that came with my microsoft for Mac suite with no issue until recently when we upgraded our server to 2012 and it wouldn’t connect. I downloaded this one expecting it to be be suffient. I was wrong. The major oversight here is that they built this “app” with no ability to use the native mac keyboard shortcuts (copy, paste, etc). We have an ERP program on our server that operates almost solely on shortcodes that now we cannot use. This is so frustrating and I am in disbelief that they could create an app with such a major oversight!!!!

connection interrupts constantly (8.0.34)
9/20/2016 9:46:00 PM 1/5 By Raduco
This needs to be fixed. Previous versions did not have this problem. I’m connecting to a 2003 Server.

Good but needs streamlining (8.0.34)
9/20/2016 2:12:00 PM 4/5 By Wesselde09
The program works well, only thing that i would change is too add a setting that once you click on the icon the session opens imediately instead of the normal Remote deskop page, as i only have one remote deskop connection and it just waste time waiting for that to open and then click on the session to open the session. Effectively reducing the number of clicks to get the desired results. That would be a nice update.

Works pretty good to me (8.0.34)
9/20/2016 6:50:00 AM 5/5 By Capote1789
Is not a great and fancy app, but works does the job. I do like it :)
