Description

OneDrive is the one place for everything in your life. It gives you free online storage for all your personal files, so you can access them from your Mac and any other devices you use – iPhone, iPad, PC, Windows Phone or Android. With OneDrive for Business, you also get storage for your work files so you can share and collaborate on them with other people at your work or school/university. The OneDrive app for Mac makes it easy to work with your OneDrive files on your Mac:

•Access your OneDrive files directly from the Finder, including attachments that you’ve saved to OneDrive from Outlook.com, and documents and spreadsheets that you’ve created from Office Online.
•Work with your OneDrive files even when you’re offline. Your changes will sync automatically the next time you’re online.
•Choose the folders in your OneDrive that you want to sync on your Mac.
•Add several files or folders to OneDrive at a time by dragging them to the OneDrive folder. By putting your files in OneDrive, you can access them from anywhere and have a backup in case something happens to your computer.

Onedrive is the best small business cloud platform on the market…for Windows, but for Mac, it is a nightmare! The files sync whenever they want, and it doesn’t even seem like you can open the folder without going into the website. Not sure what you will do if you’re offline. I’m trying to update it now and it’s been at it for like a half hour; I’m sure it’s not happening.

My absolute favorite cloud service. The app has never failed me (current version included). I’d love to see an “Update Now” option. This would allow me to update anytime I make a change without having to wait for the app to “wake up” and update.

In theory, a great app. In practice, the same as every Microsoft application on Mac: a disgrace: quits randomly, no status, simply stops working. For a backup app, this is unacceptable. The same applies to the online interface: when you sort by “last modified”, it only shows the “last modified” *online*. The documents modified on your computer won’t appear there. That is, of course, if they were backed up at all, of course.

The app was working relatively well before. Then it automatically updated itself and became terrible….. why does Microsoft do this?

This thing is using over 1GB of memory at idle, compared to Dropbox (151MB) and Insync (71MB). When I first launched it and added some files I wanted to move from Google Drive, it threw an error that a file path was too long and I could only quit OneDrive or choose a different folder. I quit, fixed the file, and relaunched, only for it to find another file path that was too long... This process continued for around an hour until I had finally renamed and repathed enough files to satisfy the stupid file path length requirement. Now the app is sitting idle and using a ton of memory, the menubar icon indicates 10 errors uploading files (that it shouldn't have any issues with) and a bunch of "Please change the file/folder name" errors because my file/folder names apparently don't satisfy Microsoft's desired naming. Oh, and the window telling me about the errors? It's about 10000 pixels wide and I can't resize it...neat. So I have to drag it around until I can find the actual errors in the window (˜9400 pixels of that 10000 are just blank space). Unacceptable.

Memory hog, sluggish or nonexistent synching (17.3.6724.1219)

Since the last update, I’m having huge problems with this app: for several days, it’s been saying “downloading 96 files” at 0kb and nothing happens. I’ve tried synching selected folders, but then it deleted all the other folders from my hard drive and started generating error messages about the files it just deleted as being duplicate.... Trying to download them back now… And while it’s hard at work pondering, it hogs up 90% of resources of an 8GB RAM MacBook! How is that even possible? Can’t do anything else on it, while OneDrive app is on… It seems like previous versions were more reliable, took up less resources, and essentially did what they should. Why bother “upgrading” if it’s just dismantling what already worked well?

Same as the other recent reviewers. Newest version is DOA. Won’t login, no matter how long you wait. Reinstalled, cleared the keychain cache, reinstalled again, nothing… nada...

The update was welcome as the previous one was garbage for me and broke functionality altogether on my Mac Pro. It does not, however, fix the problem. Still no sync, no options, and the application doesn’t appear to even load fully - same as before. Uninstall/reinstall with multiple computer restarts doesn’t help. I’m going to have to try mining the old version from a time machine backup I guess. Thanks Obama.

I have recently moved to Office 365, one drive, used to work, barely ok on pre-macOS Sierra. Now, it just never logs in. There are threads online, with people complaining about the same thing, especially as of beginning of december (apparently there’s been an update). It’s really too bad Microsoft is really dropping the ball on Mac support, especially for paying customers. I’m moving to Office 365 to achieve better integration. Now I have OneDrive staring me in the face, but no way for me to use it… and have to revert back to the other methods (Dropbox / Google Drive), which work really nicely, even through updates. Further, everytime I install the app, the app store marks it with an “Update” button, instead of the “Open” when an app is installed. Interestingly, OneDrive doesn’t even show under the “Updates” tab in the app store, and clicking on the “Update” button on the app itself, doesn’t do anything. Other app updates seem to work just fine. So I’m guessing something in the code or deployment of the OneDrive app is broken. Hopefully MS will address this issue so that this app can be used.

Just like others here, after attempting the upgrade the new version will not startup correctly. I called support and they tried to find an old version I cn install but no luck yet. If you haven’t upgraded yet I would wait until they get this fixed - it’s basically useless now.

Wow I updated OneDrive on my main laptop to 17.3.something and clicking on the OS X menu icon does nothing now. Nothing pops up. I don’t know if files are even being synced. And now there’s a dock icon (which there shouldn’t be), and when switching to the app it gives me no information, none of the menus (File, Edit, etc) give me ANY options. What is going on? Rapid releases are good and all AS LONG AS YOU DON’T BREAK THINGS. We’re talking about mission critical apps that people rely on, so if being agile means quality is compromised then please slow down your releases in order to improve quality. How can I downgrade to something that actually WORKS?

I have no problems generally with the app’s functionality. It normally performs as advertised. And it’s a no brainer over Box or Dropbox if you already subscribe to the Office suite, since you get 1 TB free. The reason I give it a lower rating is that, recently, the app has just been terribly buggy during the update process. For one, you update through the MAS and the MAS still says it needs to be updated (even though the OneDrive app says I have the current version). And more problematically, even after the update, the menu bar app freezes any time you do anything with its menus, basically locking it up--and this DOES affect the app’s functionality.

Getting what everyone else is getting. An empty cloud in the menu bar and NO syncing. Worked great before the automatic update. Hopefully this gets fixed soon!

This product is an embarrassment to MSFT. I regularly see file syncing issues and it barely works between my PC and Mac. Another example of why MSFT suite is terrible and best of breed is the right way to go.

10.9.5 support still broken (17.3.6724.1219)

I got excited when I saw this latest update, hoping it would fix the issues with the last release. Sadly, this still doesn’t work with OS X 10.9.5. When launched it displays a cloud icon in the Menu Bar & in the Dock, but no options or functionality appears visible. The last working version for me on 10.9.5 was 17.3.6518.0914. Really miss this functioning :(.

My mac’s system is OS X and OneDrive used to work on it okay—sometimes syncing wasn't prompt but it worked. But last night, the app updated itself and this morning when I started it, it shows that the app's open, but it isn’t responsive at all. The icon on the top is hollow clouds and when I click on it, nothing happens!!!! I use OneDrive with Word app on my mobile devices quite a lot, so I do need it.

I tried to install it, and it refuses to use any of the folders I select as my “OneDrive” folder. I looked online for a solution, and found various knownothings at Microsoft suggesting people randomly uninstall and reinstall. Apparently, very occasionally uninstalling and reinstalling works. Maybe if I have the time, I’ll try again with this app someday. I’m just glad I haven’t paid any actual money for OneDrive, as obviously it’s not worth it. BTW, Dropbox and Google Drive didn’t have any problems at all, so...

Microsoft and Adobe: both stuck in the 20th century, neither willing to update popular apps to support modern file systems. Lucky for me, I have a spare partition that is formatted case-insensitive, to support paleo-software.

Can sign in on my iOS devices just fine, but when trying to sign in on a Mac, I get an error saying that 'gmail.com isn't in our system'. What a joke. Seriously Microsoft, have you just not learned anything yet from all the past failures??

This product does not work. Every release brings a set of different problems. I suggest that they adopt one of the many other cloud to mac sync products that work, it would be less frsutrating for your customers and less cost for you.

I’ve been using OneDrive for a couple of years, using it to sync files between a Mac and a Surface Pro (2, 3 and 4). It worked well until recently updated. I’m getting the same thing others have described. Empty clouds at the top, nothing happens when I click on the icon at the top, and no syncing. It’s totally broken. I noticed in other reviews that OS X 10.9.5 was specifically mentioned also, which is what I’m using (I have my reasons). Since some reviewers are indicating that these updates are working for them, I wonder if it is older versions of Mac OS X that have this problem? I imagine that at some point in the not too distant future this will be fixed, but for now, be aware that if you are updating, this version might be problematic for some Macintoshes.

Please allow this application to be installed and work on the case sensitive Hard Drive. It works just fine for iCloud, Dropbox, and GDrive, I couldn’t see why this should be a problem for OneDrive
