Update no help (10.2)
6/7/2017 9:54:34 PM 1/5 By resetpreacher
I can't get Garageband 10 to record two inputs from my 2i2 Focusrite attached to 2012 MacBook Pro using Sierra. The sound is obviously getting to the interface. I set inputs to 1 on a mike and 2 on another mike for recording voice and guitar. I’ve enabled record in both however one will not stay on, no matter what I do. I’ve watched videos, checked blogs and forums — tried everything suggested, to no avail. I give up! Update 10.2 says it addressed ease of use but it appears no different on this issue. I switched to GarageBand from the Ableton Light DAW that came with the interface because I found that program too hard to learn. I’ve wasted a lot of time on this. Guess I have no choice but to go back to it because I don’t have money for another DAW.

New Update (10.2)

Before the new update, I would’ve given Garageband 5 stars. However, the new update made the graphics look very childish and plain. Garageband would have been better off without this update.

Redesign is a disaster (10.2)

The new design is sterile and uninspired. It needlessly changes icons around, moves some controls. Yet another terrible software update from Apple. This is becoming the norm. Stay on 10.1 if you’ve got it.

A great app! (10.2)

I’ve been using GarageBand for years and I love it! It’s super easy to use, and all of the essentials are easily accessible. Lots of third party plugins also work very nicely. One thing I wish could improved is the flex timing feature. The quality really isn’t that good after audio is stretched a lot. I know that this is done on purpose so that there is no lag or rendering time, but if there were a checkbox in the preferences panel that allowed for higher quality stretching upon export, then that would be perfect because I use that feature a lot when making remixes. Overall, I really love GarageBand!

Greater than before! (10.2)

Remeber to save session to external drive (10.1.6)
6/1/2017 8:30:05 PM 5/5 By Music Factory Studios
I keep reading in the comments about the disk to slow error. All recording sessions need to be saved to an external drive and tracks played back from the external drive no matter if you use Garageband or Logic X or Pro Tools, if you are getting an error from a slow disk it’s because you are not proplerly saving the files ecternally outside of the OS drive. Latency will be lower and you can record more tracks along with using more plugins & effects. You should always save sessions to an external drive so your internal drive can take care of the operating system and all other tasks like plugins and effects. Using an External USB3 or Thunderbolt drive will help to not overload the bottle neck of the system which is your internal drive. This is especially needed if you have a spinning hard drive but even if you have an SSD in your machine try an external drive and watch your system preform 10 times better when recording or mixing audio.

Gets worse and worse with each update. (10.1.6)

As updates becomes more frequent and required with many kinds of software, Garageband suffers the problem of removing features that didn’t need to be removed which let the software stand out much more on its own than with other music editing software. What do I mean by this? Well, take Garageband verison 6.0 which came free if you owned a Macbook back in the earlier years (say 2009). Back then you may have had less instruments to play with, but you had TONS of effects to make those intruments sound cooler which made up for it. It allowed much more creative freedom for the user to play around with. Want an Electric Guitar sound 8bit or 16bit? You could! Want a saxophone reverb like a guitar or echo throughtout the track? You could! Nowadays, the newest versions of Garageband have become less and less interesting because, even though they added more instruments to library, they removed those effect features which now have become their own instruments or instrument loops that has become standard just like any other music editing software. What’s even worse the new Macbook software doesn’t even let you install Garageband 6.0 alongside newer versions anymore and even if you try to (disc or otherwise), it won’t register to complete intrumental set in the newer versions and just simply dump the old software in favor of the newer version instead. Remember those 6 Garageband Jam Packs that are now hard to find these days? Well, if you want them, you’re going to have to pay for a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SOFTWARE just to get them and even then, they still might not be compatible with newer versions! So if I were to sum up points to improve Garageband and make it better to stand out more than its competitiors, here’s what I would do: -Bring back the Garageband Jam Packs and the instrumental effects from the 6.0 version -Bring back the ability to have newer versions of Garageband stand alongside older versions (if not, at least do the first bullt point) -Add MORE instruments to the library. The newest I’ve seen are Chinese Traditional, which is fine, but there’s a WORLD full of instruments out there guys! Think outside the box, please! And sure there are more intruments than older versions had, but adding more intruments would be a bonus in my book compared to removing features that made Garageband stand out from its competitors. -Not every music editing software has to be the same. I’ve been using Garageband more than other music editing software such as Reason and Fruity Loops and I love it for its simple user interface, which is what keeps me using it. However, recently, I’ve been disappointed at the approach the developers are taking with Garageband which is why I rate it 2 stars.

for me its cool (10.1.6)
