Linking Text Boxes! (5.2)
6/10/2014 1:18:00 AM 2/5 By realtorrab
I haven’t been crazy about Pages 5.2 but this takes the cake! I am working on a 52 page booklet with graphics and text. There is no way link text boxes for overflow text. We used to be able to do it, but they removed that feature for some god forsaken reason. Please bring this feature back. Why would you remove it anyway??? I am wasting way too much time geting my text to fit!

Feels like a downgrade (5.2)
6/9/2014 10:53:00 PM 1/5 By Daniel Pignataro
Sadly, re-writting great software into dumbed down versions seems to be a trend with Apple. Anyone used to working with Pages '09 should avoid this upgrade. Too many of the fundamental features that made Pages '09 such a great alternative to MS-Word are either gone or have been implemented differently -- usually for the worse. Although Apple has been restoring some of the missing features through updates, Pages 5 still feels like an inferior product.

No “Save As" (5.2)
6/8/2014 6:58:00 PM 1/5 By afnscgkacx
“Duplicate” replaces “Save As”, meaning that one must “Duplicate” the file before making any changes, or the changes will be applied to the source file, and the original document is lost. For those who have used computers and the standard “Save As” function for many years, this leads to the needless destruction of one’s documents. I hate that I spent time creating a letterhead in pages, and will now have to redo it in MS Word or OpenOffice because Apple chose to make Pages unusable.

gorgeous look, poor functions (5.2)
6/8/2014 5:09:00 AM 2/5 By Kopolojoyo
My MathType equations doesn’t work, every function is hidden somewhere it’s so not convenient to use this software, Apple’s famous for simplicity, but hiding complex and useful functions behind the curtain, or even cutting it off, is just stupid! i’m so regretful of buything this set of iWork software with $20 each

The new version of Pages has given the user even less design ability. If you’re looking for something that ONLY types letters on a page with the occasional added clipart, this POS is for you. Otherwise, find another product. They have simply made a good product into something unusable and oddly enough, less user-intuitive.

Please give me back Mail Merge (5.2)
6/7/2014 2:15:00 PM 1/5 By Melsmom
I praised Pages (and therefore Mac) to the skies for the usefulness of the mailmerge function. I create worship bulletins and was able to create a template and then, using Numbers, a source document, making weekly production a breeze. I haven’t installed the “updates” for either Pages or Numbers so that I do not accidently loose this function - the new stuff is pretty, but its usefulness has signficantly dropped with the loss of the ability to create template docs. Think what I could do with all the new bells and whistles in Pages if I just had that one thing. I know a lot of business users are mourning the loss as well and resorting to “Weird," which has a pretty limited mailmerge function, nothing like Pages used to have, but at least it’s something.

6/6/2014 5:27:00 AM 1/5 By Nieng
I’ve been using Pages since 2011 and never had problems with it until it’s new update. I can’t edit the tables the way I used to anymore! I hate everything about the new update! Nothing works as simple as it used to before! WASTE OF MONEY!

Simply worse than it was before. (5.2)
6/6/2014 1:35:00 AM 1/5 By fredbobx
Okay, it’s not really a one star app — maybe more like 2, but after the enormous, endlessly discussed downgrade that was Pages 5, it feels good (if futile) to express one’s displeasure unambiguously. The thing that ticked me off today and made me seek out the cathartic experience of writing this review was a struggle with auto-correct. Even after hitting the ‘X’ on the pop up suggestion, as soon as I hit the space bar Pages still replaced what I had typed with what it thought I should have typed. A tiny bug, but an annoying one. Most of Pages’s problems are deeper design problems or functions that have inexplicably disappeared, but the sheer stupidity on display in a situation like this, where the application does exactly the opposite of what you expect it to do, nicely sums up the experience of attempting to use the application.

Not an upgrade - It’s a downgrade! (5.2)
6/5/2014 11:45:00 PM 1/5 By DesignGoddess7
You do NOT want to download this upgrade unless you are new to Pages (possibly new to using a Mac) and don’t know any better. This is a complete disaster. They actually REMOVED functionality from this program that was there in the last version. For instance: You can no longer view your document two up. If you’re designing a book or brochure, it’s important to see the page spreads - not just single pages. Why would they remove that feature? It also removes all the text links from page to page. I could go on about the problems with this app upgrade, but let me just say that I loaded it on my computer, opened a few documents, saw what a mess it all was and removed it forever. Thank God I didn’t remove Pages 9!

Dont upgrade if you link text boxes!! (5.2)
6/5/2014 9:54:00 PM 1/5 By trailstrider
I just got severely inhibited for working on a quarterly newsletter. I rely on the linked text box feature in order to be able to lay out articles across multiple pages without having to redistribute text every time i tweak the layout or graphics etc. WIth this latest pages, that is no longer there. I have no way of letting an article continue across pages cleanly. I need to roll back to pages ’09, and the update wiped that version out.
